Bookies Take Bets On Name Of Britney Spears' Baby

by Scott Colothan on 4/13/2005

Bookmakers are already taking bets on what Britney Spears is going to call her baby.
As we told you earlier today, Britney announced through her official website that she is expecting a baby to Kevin Federline.

Quick to get in on the act, Bookies are putting William and Harry as joint favourites because of Spears’ supposed obsession with the Royal males. Both are offered at 20/1 by William Hill, reports ananova.com.

If the child is a girl, the bookmakers are also offering 20/1 on Zara and Grace.
Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams told ananova: "Punters have been calling with all kinds of suggestions but there is no doubt that the public think that Britney will buck the celebrity trend of choosing wacky names and they are falling over themselves to back traditional British names."

Rank outsiders include Justin at 150/1, Victoria at 100/1 and Tiara at 250/1.
William Hill also don’t rate Britney and Kevin Federline’s chances of lasting the year – the odds of the couple being divorced by the end of 2005 have been slashed from 6/1 to 4/1.

Britney Spears Confirms Pregnancy

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - US pop princess Britney Spears confirmed that she is pregnant with her first child, ending weeks of frenzied speculation over whether she was launching a new career as a mother.

"The time has finally come to share our wonderful news that we are expecting our first child together," Spears and her husband of seven months, Kevin Federline, announced on the singer's website.

"There are reports that I was in the hospital this weekend, Kevin and I just want everyone to know that all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, Love Britney and Kevin."
Spears, 23, and Federline, a 27 year-old former backup dancer in Spears' stage troupe, married secretly in September after a whirlwind romance.

Media have speculated for weeks that the entertainer was expecting, but she had refused to comment on her family status.

No further details of the couple's plans were available, but reports have said Spears is about four months pregnant.
While the baby will be Spears' first, it will be Federline's third child. He has two small children by his ex-girlfriend, actress Shar Jackson, making Spears a step-mother twice over.

Spears and Federline have been the subject of intense media interest since they began dating in April last year and married in a surprise ceremony on September 18.

Following their wedding, Spears was forced to rebuff reports that the marriage was a sham, while one magazine published details of what it said was a tough pre-nuptial agreement, under which Federline was limited in what he could claim from the millionaire singer in case of a divorce.

Soon after her wedding, Spears announced she was taking time off work to "chill out" and think about starting a family.
"I am going to be focusing on three main areas of my life for the immediate future: myself; my husband, Kevin; and starting a family," she wrote on her website in November.

To counter the media frenzy, the couple announced last week that they have agreed to make a reality television show in which they plan to document their lives together in their own terms and using their own private video footage.

"From the day that Kevin and I met, there have been constant rumours and inaccurate speculation about our lives together," Spears said.

"I feel that last year the tabloids ran my life and I am really excited about showing my fans what really happened rather than all the stories, which have been misconstrued by journalists in the past," she said.

The fly-on-the-wall reality show was expected to premiere later this year on the American UPN cable network, but it was not immediately clear whether Spears' pregnancy would change those plans.

Which would-be moms could top Britney's buzz?

By Derrik J. Lang
Associated Press

NEW YORK - Britney Spears is eating for two now, so what other celebrity pregnancy would gobble up the headlines?

The Associated Press asked three lifestyle authors which baby announcement would top Spears' big news, which she revealed Tuesday. Here's what they had to say -- from the possible to the improbable:

Jennifer Lopez: Lopez sparked rumors after canceling a trip to London in February. Jenny from the block bared her midriff during New York Fashion Week, but the loose-fitting dress she later wore for her Grammy performance led to whispers. Lisa Earle McLeod, co-author of ``Forget Perfect,'' doesn't think J.Lo is ready for M.hood.

``She can change out husbands and boyfriends, but babies don't go away,'' McLeod said.

Lopez, who shied away from revealing her marriage to Marc Anthony after her much publicized breakup with Ben Affleck, could use pregnancy as a promotional tool, McLeod said. However, Lissa Marie Coffey, author of ``What's Your Dosha, Baby?'' thinks Lopez has used up her time in the limelight.

``Nobody would care at this point,'' Coffey said. ``We've already been through all the ups and downs with her.''

Potential baby buzz: One out of five home pregnancy tests.

Demi Moore: Almost as much tabloid ink has been spilled on speculation about a potential pregnancy for Moore (already the mother of three daughters) and her young beau, Ashton Kutcher.

``There's already been so many rumors about her that the initial shock is over,'' said Jen Singer, author of ``14 Hours 'Til Bedtime.''

Potential baby buzz: Two out of five home pregnancy tests.

Jessica Simpson: Simpson and Spears have long been compared. Would the news of a Simpson-Nick Lachey baby top Spears' announcement?

``Considering all the gossip about their marriage falling apart, a Jessica Simpson pregnancy would trump Britney,'' Singer said. ``It would prove the naysayers wrong.''

Potential baby buzz: Three out of five home pregnancy tests.

Jennifer Aniston: Aniston's surprising split from Brad Pitt sent a shock wave through the world of tabloids. Would an Aniston baby be just as startling? That all depends.

``There'd be all this speculation on who's the daddy,'' Coffey said. ``People would talk.''

``If she was a mom, she'd be a single mom,'' McLeod said. ``I suspect it would be harder than any role she's ever played.''

Potential baby buzz: Three out of five home pregnancy tests.

Angelina Jolie: Many tabloids pointed the finger at Jolie, Pitt's co-star in the upcoming film, ``Mr. and Mrs. Smith,'' when Aniston and Pitt split. Jolie, who adopted a son from Cambodia during her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton, has denied a romantic link with Pitt.

``We'd have to have a grid on the cover of Star magazine with all the possible fathers,'' McLeod said.

Said Singer: ``That would be juicy. She has made no bones about how she has several different lovers.''

Potential baby buzz: Four out of five home pregnancy tests.

Oprah Winfrey: OK, OK. Winfrey is 50, but motherhood could happen.

``Oprah would be an amazing mother,'' said McLeod. ``However, the rest of us would miss her dearly. She'd probably realize you can't host a talk show, publish a magazine, run an empire and be a hands-on mom.''

``It's not gonna happen,'' Coffey said. ``I'm sure Oprah going through menopause is likely to make more headlines than Britney being pregnant.''

Britney Spears' baby is a girl

Updated: 2005-04-15 15:54

In a posting on her Web site Tuesday, Britney Spears told fans that she and husband, Kevin Federline, were expecting their first child together, not mentioning a gender. But on Thursday night, numerous online publications were reporting the baby is female.

Britney Spears with a bump?
Sky Showbiz, a British publication, reported "When asked how the 23-year-old mum-to-be was after a miscarriage scare, spokeswoman Leslie Sloan said 'She's OK. Mother and daughter are doing fine.'"

Sky Showbiz also reported that betting pools on the baby's name favor Grace and Zara.

"The time has finally come to share our wonderful news that we are expecting our first child together," the singer said on her Web site.

"There are reports that I was in the hospital this weekend, and Kevin and I just want everyone to know that all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers."

The couple were married in September. Magazines and tabloids have speculated for weeks that Spears, 23, was pregnant, documenting her expanding waistline and fuller figure, but she remained mum on the subject.

However, she has previously expressed a desire to start a family. In an interview with People magazine last fall, she said: "I want to be a young mom. I can see us as parents."

While this will be Spears' first foray into parenthood, Federline, 27, has two children with his ex-girlfriend, actress Shar Jackson.

Spears and Federline met last year when he was a backup dancer on her tour ¡ª and Jackson was pregnant with their son.

Spears wed Federline just eight months after ending a 55-hour Las Vegas marriage to her childhood friend, Jason Alexander.

Her second marriage has provided endless fodder for tabloids, which have speculated that the union is in trouble ¡ª prompting an angry outburst from Spears on her Web site last month.

Yet the couple have hardly hid from the limelight ¡ª last week, the pair announced they would document their courtship in a new reality series on UPN. The network promised "exclusive, never-before-seen private home videos" of their "personal love story."

Spears' impending motherhood may be the ultimate indicator that the former teen princess is all grown up.

Spears was cast as an innocent with a bit of sex appeal when she made her debut at 16 with the multiplatinum "... Baby, One More Time" and became a youth icon.

As she grew older, her image got sexier, and more vampish.

Her last album was a greatest hits collection, which has sold nearly 1 million copies.

Britney Spears announced yesterday (April 12) on her newly redesigned website that she and husband Kevin Federline are expecting their first child together, putting an end to weeks of speculation by the tabloid media. In a message to fans, Britney wrote: "Dear Fans, the time has finally come to share our wonderful news that we are expecting our first child together. There are reports that I was in the hospital this weekend, Kevin and I just want everyone to know that all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Love, Britney & Kevin."

No other details were announced. This is Britney's first child, but her husband has two young children from a previous relationship with actress Shar Jackson.

On different occasions since her marriage to Kevin last September, Britney has said that she wanted a baby, and in particular wanted to be what she calls a "young mom" like her own mother.

The brand new britneyspears.com features a more spiritual--and modestly dressed--Britney along with paintings of the moon and assorted ethereal women by fantasy artist Josephine Wall. Gone are the midriff-baring outfits and short shorts from her previous site--with the exception of one or two photos of the pop princes in a top with a plunging neckline, most of the shots on the new site show Britney posing demurely all bundled up in a white spa robe, or wearing a buttoned down shirt with a gypsy scarf covering her long, blonde hair.

The site features much of the same content as the previous site. In addition to news, photos, and Britney's biography, there's the newly titled "Love, B" section which includes Britney's writing on the "Stream Of Consciousness" page, rumors shot down in "Truth Be Told," and photos of her beloved pups in "Dog's Crib."
